š» SUNFLOWERS š½ CORN š PUMPKINS

Close to our house thereās a pick-and-pay field. In September, the corn is ready. In October, the pumpkins take over. The sunflowers grow in long rows all fall, full of sparrows.

We went right in the middle of the season, so we could get all three at once. I brought my camera and our friends Viggo and Vanja.Ā

At first, the sun was harsh and made everyone squint. By the time we were done, it was nearly dark.

This was the first cold night of the season. The wind felt like winter.

Can you tell when corn is ripe? The husks go brown and papery, and the kernels look full.

This pumpkin is coming home with us.Ā

Cold wind, warm light.

We carried everything home. Sunflowers for the vase, corn for dinner, pumpkins for Halloween.

The sunflower rows were full of sparrows. They burst out when we walked through, then settled in a nearby tree to stare at us.

Good night
